Feeling good
I just got back from one of the most inspiring events, “Lose the Training Wheels” is a camp hosted by UNYFEAT (Upstate NY Families for Effective Autism Treatment) The camp teaches children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other disabilities, ages 8 and up, how to ride a conventional bike without training wheels.
It’s funny how we take the little things for granted, like riding a bike.
I had a such great time. These were the sweetest kids, full of determination and energy. My job as a “volunteer” was to walk or I should say run alongside my new friend JJ as he rode his specially designed bike. Man, he was kicking my butt!
Isn’t it remarkable, the number of children diagnosed with Autism is on the rise, yet no one has a definite answer as to why? It really is a miracle to have a baby.
If you have someone close to you who has ASD or if you want to help a great local support group check out the website UNYFEAT

Sandy,
You guys were talking last week about what ever happened to Zack from Saved By The Bell, he is in a new show in September on TNT called Raising the BAr. This is the first thing I’ve seen him in since the reunion movie. What ever happened to Kelly and Lisa???

Sandy,
I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the UNYFEAT conference and speaking out for Autism! This is a spectrum disorder that is near and dear to my heart! I am a social worker by trade and work with children that have Autism or Aspergers. They make my day so much brighter then it could be! Some of the most rewarding work I have ever done! We need more people speaking out about this disorder just because it isn’t 150% clear and how children develop it.
Thanks for speaking out for such a great cause!

Sandy, thanks so much for volunteering for Lose The Training Wheels. UNYFEAT is planning to bring the program back next year, probably the last week in June, before summer programs begin. We would welcome volunteers to run/spot the children as they progress through the week. Stay tuned to the website for other great programming, especially as the new school year begins. There are plans for a 2 day Conference with a specialist training the SCERTS Model, which is all about regulating the child’s emotional level, a First Responders’ Training, because ASD kids have different responses to emergency personnel and situations, and lots of support discussions and workshops.
Thanks, again, Sandy for your support. You Rock!
